Malaysian agencies cooperate on biometric system

Malaysia’s Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has confirmed a biometric system to monitor foreign workers in the country is expected to be implemented in all entry points from October.
The system will record thumb prints of foreign workers and is being set up to reduce the problem of people who overstay after their visas have expired. It will also record details of individuals who have forged their documents as well as those who enter the country as tourists but end up working illegally.
The system will involve the cooperation of all agencies involved in border control, including immigration, marine police, armed forces as well as enforcement agencies from neighbouring countries.
