UK biometric company OmniPerception has developed facial surveillance technology that is capable of identifying faces in seconds. The company claims that subjects don’t even have to look directly at the camera for the system to work.
Called CheckPoint.S, the product uses the company's well-known face identification technology but in a unique way which should enhance the safety and security of public places by acting as a 24/7 security guard that never forgets a face.
As well as accurately identifying possible criminals, the technology could also be used to confirm the identity of VIPs looking to enter premises such as hotels and casinos.
The technology captures an image and recognises a suspect as they walk past the camera. According to the company the suspect doesn’t have to directly look at the camera because the technology is capable of extracting the facial features from the image and compares these against images already stored in an existing database.
Stewart Hefferman, the CEO of OmniPerception explains that the technology could prove an effective tool in the fight against crime, terrorism and identity theft. “We are really excited at the potential that exists to use CheckPoint.S as a valuable resource to combat crime, terrorism and identify theft and enhance the safety and security of our public spaces.”
