Conference to bring biometrics experts together on EU projects

The European Association for Biometrics’ (EAB) has reported that its second Research Projects Conference will this year see experts present research results on numerous significant projects for the continent.

The 2nd EAB Research Projects Conference, to be held on 7-8 in Darmstadt, Germany, will discuss the benefits for European society of numerous EU FP7 projects, namely FIDELITY, FastPass, BEAT, FutureID, MobilePass, Eksistenz, PCAS, PIDaaS, ORIGINS, ABC4EU, SIIP, PARIS, INGRESS and HECTOS.

This second conference will also present updates of the projects introduced in the first conference back in 2014, and cover new projects in the fields of border control, speaker identification, template protection.

“Experts from the biometric community will report about their results and will discuss in a panel the impact of the new EU regulation on privacy and data protection specifically regarding biometric research and deployment. Furthermore, a second panel will be devoted to discuss large-scale deployments (e.g. the European Smart Borders,” wrote the EAB in a statement.

The European Agency for the operational management of large-scale IT systems in the area of freedom, security and justice  (eu-LISA) will be involved in the conference and contribute experts to both panels. Moreover the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Trust and Security (DG CNECT) will discuss with the participants current and future research objectives.
