Biometrics firm MorphoTrust has launched a new identity platform that combines multimodal biometrics with a search engine to enable enterprises to quickly and seamlessly authenticate identity.

Known as Identix, the cloud-based platform offers “Trusted Identity-as-a-Service”and is designed to protect consumers, businesses and government agencies from the growing burdens of identity theft and fraud.

The company is also releasing Identix Mobile Software Developer Kits (SDKs), which will enable developers to bring the identity verification tool to mobile devices.

“From financial services to healthcare there is a critical need to establish trusted identities, both in person and online,” said Bruce Berger, General Manager, Commercial Business at MorphoTrust. “We have deep expertise in establishing, issuing and verifying personal identities in some of the most demanding environments in the world. Identix TIaaS leverages our biometric, credentialing and authentication competencies for a wide variety of commercial markets—everywhere identity matters.”

The company notes that one potential use case for this technology is opening a bank account remotely. Here’s how it could work:

A bank customer opens a new account from a home by capturing an image of their driver license

Identix technology verifies that the ID is genuine and unaltered and delivers the result to the bank

The customer then takes a picture of the barcode on the back of their license, and the resulting name, address and demographic data is automatically populated into the bank’s CRM or POS system, along with authorization for the trusted transaction.

The Identix TIaaS platform serves a wide variety of markets such as financial services, healthcare, higher education, government, travel and consumer transactions.
