The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has notified local governments that children who enrolled for their biometrics-backed Aadhaar card below the age of five should now update their biometric data.

UIDAI Deputy Director General M.V.S. Rami Reddy revealed the news in a press release on Thursday, adding that that a special enrolment drive for children is underway in all schools in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The schools concerned contacted UIDAI over both enrolment and biometric data renewal.

Citizens should also get themselves enrolled if they have not received the Aadhaar till date even after approaching the centres concerned up to December 31.

As of 29 December, out of the estimated population of 1.28 billion people, only around 330 million were still to be enrolled.
