Slovakian fingerprint recognition specialist Innovatrics has unveiled a new algorithm that can process and match some 720 million fingerprints per second.

This represents a rise in the speed of the fingerprint matches by 88 percent by the firm’s AFIS from 383 million last year to an incredible 720 million matches per second this year.

In a statement, the firm noted that this increased efficiency should enables customers, such as national ID and social security agencies, travel and border control operations, elections commissions (for voter registration and verification), and commercial enterprises (for authentication of employees), to utilize their resources more effectively and reduce overall cost.

"We are delighted that every generation of our algorithm delivers extraordinary results," notes Jan Lunter, Chief Technology Officer of Innovatrics . "With these results, Innovatrics  provides the fastest AFIS solution available on the market in identity management projects."

The results were achieved on platforms based on the new Intel Xeon Processor E5-2699 v4 and compared with the previous one, Intel Xeon Processor E5-2697 v3.
