The Biometrics Institute has welcomed Adam Hergert from ANZ Bank, Jason Holmes from Heathrow Airport and Richard Agostinelli from Crossmatch to its board of directors.

According to the industry organisation, the incoming directors bring invaluable expertise to the board as it looks at the new opportunities and challenges facing the biometrics industry as the adoption curve for biometrics moves from large scale government enrolment programmes to commercial and consumer authentication programmes.

“It is important that the Biometrics Institute provides expert guidance in this growing area of biometrics adoption,” says Andrew Rice, chairman and director of the Biometrics Institute. “We need to strengthen our engagement with commercial businesses and consumer facing organisations such as in financial services, retail, healthcare and aviation sectors that are increasingly looking at introducing biometrics. We need to lead the conversation about the current capabilities of biometrics, how they are being used and how biometrics can be securely integrated into today's enterprise.”

The board has also agreed to establish a new expert group, the ‘Digital Services Expert Group’, which will explore some of the unique challenges of using biometrics for digital identity verification and authentication. The new expert group will also look at what new guidance may be needed by industry to ensure the responsible use of biometrics in digital services.

The Digital Services Expert Group will meet with Biometrics Institute members and key stakeholders on 21 October 2016 in London to discuss its role and priorities.
