Spanish data protection authority publishes paper on face recognition

The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has published a report in which it analyses issues related to the use of facial recognition techniques to carry out online exams in the face of the health crisis caused by COVID-19.

As the Agency has reiterated in recent weeks, the General Data Protection Regulation is not suspended so there must be clear consent and adequate controls, the AEPD wrote.

The consent of students also requires that they be offered alternatives such as in-person identification, confirmed the body,
