LA County extends digital mugshot contract with DataWorks

The Los Angeles Sheriff has extended its contract with biometric identification DataWorks to provide and maintain a “digital mugshot” system that uses facial recognition.

According to the official documents, the US$3.5 mn contract is for an initial term from February 8, 2015 through February 7, 2019 with three one-year extension options for a maximum term not to exceed seven years.

The Digital Mugshot System is an investigative mugshot and booking records management system that is used to collect, protect, manage, store, search, and run reports

Earlier this year, the  Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department selected NEC’s multimodal Integra ID 5 biometric solution to enhance its identification systems.

Costing $24.4 million, that contract will last for six years with an option to renew for another four
