A biometric identity product developed by the Netherlands’ Genkey has been shortlisted for a healthcare solutions awards focused on Africa.

Ghana’s National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has employed GenKey through its partner, STL Technologies, to implement biometric membership registration, database deduplication, instant issuance of ID cards and biometric verification. In mid-2015, the firm also began providing a healthcare solution to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) of Kenya.

The judging panel of the Africa Healthcare Awards consists of senior management from African hospitals, Ministries of Health, healthcare providers, NGOs and leading African distributors.

“We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award and to have our healthcare solution recognized as an important solution for changing Africa’s healthcare”, said Michiel van der Veen, CEO of GenKey.

“The implementation of our unique biometric solution has shown to have a huge impact on the healthcare system in Ghana, offering long-term benefits”, he continued. “A clean member database, instant ID card issuance, biometric verification at healthcare providers and claim verification are contributing to huge cost savings, fraud reduction, better member management and continuous improvements in the efficiency of the NHIS in Ghana. Other national health insurance schemes in Africa would greatly benefit from such implementation as well.”
