Flexible border system for Singapore

The Singaporean Government has announced plans to launch up to $1.1 billion worth of tenders for public sector infocomm projects this year.

One of these projects will be implemented by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), which plans to implement a flexible immigration system using facial biometrics (called the Flexi Immigration Clearance System or Flex-i).

The project will allow ICA to toggle between automated and manned counters for immigration clearance.

ICA said it will be of particular benefit at checkpoints that experience a high traffic load. According to local reports the ICA plans to implement the technology at the upcoming International Cruise Terminal, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
